From the Spread Eagle Hotel

More technology (and some renovations)

Thank you both for your comments on energy saving lamps and their shortcomings. I didn’t know about the dimmable ones although the method of dimming seems a little bizarre. Philips energy savers have a very bad name in our household due to an novelty exploding one which L was unlucky enough to experience when we lived in Glasgow. Megaman are extremely good – all the spotlights in the bar and toilets are by them. Been there a year running 12 hours a day and so far all still work.

Also working today were two plasterers (in rooms 6 and 7) and a plumber(!) fitting the new radiators in the dining room. Both these single rooms should be ready for papering midweek, though whether that happens or not depends on whether decorators are available or not.

And I was clambering about the attic installing the wireless station to serve rooms 2 – 5 and getting thoroughly filthy in the process.  The wireless bit works, though we still have to install wired connections in each room as well. Frankly there’s no point since virtually all laptops have built in wireless networking. Well, even if your wireless card is broken you’ll be able to check your email here:-)

Pictures: I’ve been promising pictures of the new public rooms, but they haven’t happened yet. The reason is that I want to show the finished rooms so that you can compare with pictures last year and go “Wow!” but the function room doesn’t have a carpet yet, the residents’ lounge is full of old beds at the moment and we still haven’t got the new tables and chairs for the dining room. When that all happens you’ll get your pictures!
